Jennings deputies say LifeVac tool helped save life

Jennings County deputies say that a new piece of medical equipment in patrol vehicles helped them save the life of a man who was choking.

According to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, the incident started on Sunday when Deputy Bill Carter and Sgt. Michael Watts were called to the eastern part of the county about a call of a male choking. The deputies used the Heimlich Maneuver as well as a LifeVac device carried in their vehicles to dislodge the obstruction and the victim was able to breathe again.

The LifeVaC is an airway clearing device that uses a non-invasive sucking action to provide air pressure underneath to help dislodge a blockage.

The sheriff’s department says that the LifeVac tool has proven to be a valuable resource and highlights the importance of equipping officers with tools and training to help save lives in the community.
