Brown County police dog leads search for missing kids

A Brown County Sheriff’s Department police dog led efforts to find two missing children on Sunday.

According to the sheriff’s department, rescue workers were called at about 5:48 p.m. Sunday afternoon to Sundance Lake in the Hoosier National Forest about two missing 11 year olds. The children had become separated from their mother and then lost in the thick woods.

Deputy Cody Loncaric and his canine partner, Knox, began tracking the children and pointed rescue workers in the right direction to find the missing kids. This was Knox’s first tracking in the field and it covered about 550 yards.

Also working on the search were conservation officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Nashville police, the Harrison Township and Southern Brown County Volunteer Fire Departments.
