Drought conditions lessen locally but ground remains dry

Despite recent rains, much of Indiana remains in drought conditions with areas the state seeing extreme drought for the first time in 13 years.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis says that most of Bartholomew County has seen relief from the drought conditions, but portions of the county remain extremely dry. Moderate drought continues in parts of Johnson, Brown, Jackson, Jennings and Decatur counties.

The extreme drought is unfolding in two spots in northern Indiana including parts of Carroll, Cass, Howard and Miami counties along with Adams and Allen counties. The last time Indiana saw extreme drought conditions was in 2012.

Forecasters say that no rain is expected through next week.
