Area responding to hunger needs in communities

Food assistance benefits are set to expire for millions of Americans this weekend and area authorities are taking actions to help feed those in hunger.

Decatur County deputies will be packing a patrol car this weekend to support Bread of Life. Bread of Life, provides meals and grocery assistance to neighbors in need throughout southern Indiana.

According to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, more than one in eight community residents struggle with food insecurity and one in six children don’t know where they next meal will come from.

The Pack the Patrol car event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Walmart in Greensburg.

The Greensburg Community Bread of Life serves hot meals from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at their facility on Randall Street in Greensburg.

The City of North Vernon and the Jennings County Food Security Coalition are sharing a brochure on food assistance available in Jennings County. The brochure also includes phone numbers about the organizations so you can find out about the times and locations.
