Family displaced after Decatur County fire

A Decatur County fire left a family homeless early Wednesday morning.

According to the Letts Volunteer Fire Department, crews from that department, the Westport and the Greensburg Fire Departments were called to the fire in the 2000 block of West County Road 400S at just before 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Firefighters arriving on the scene discovered smoke coming from under the eaves of the home. The fire was discovered in the kitchen ceiling, but access was slowed because the second floor had been boarded up. After entering through second floor window, firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 7:33 a.m. in the morning.

Crews were able to leave the scene after salvage and overhaul operations were finished by 8:31 a.m.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family. No one was injured and the home had working smoke detectors, firefighters say.
