North Vernon man facing charges in child abuse case

A North Vernon man was arrested last week on child abuse related charges after allegedly fleeing from police.
According to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, deputies received a report of possible child abuse late Thursday evening, including video evidence from a home security camera. They were told the suspect would be leaving home for work soon and deputies went to Country Squire Lakes to look for him. That’s where they saw his vehicle and tried to pull him over, but rather than stop, he continued to drive away before eventually pulling into a driveway.
Police took the suspect, 38-year-old Joshua Campbell, into custody and found the suspected victim, a 5-year-old boy, inside the vehicle. The boy was taken to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital to be checked for injuries.
Campbell is facing preliminary felony charges of neglect of a dependent, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and battery on a minor.
