Bartholomew Health Department offering child car seat inspections

The Bartholomew County Health Department is offering help to keep your children safe in your vehicle.

The department is now offering a car seat inspection station where you can get free, certified child passenger safety inspections and hands-on education on the proper installation and use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts.

Officials say that studies show more than half of child car seats are installed incorrectly.

Elizabeth Burton, a certified child passenger technician says that “when car seats are installed correctly, the risk of serious injury drops dramatically.”

The station will provide car seat installation checks for children younger than eight or who are smaller than four feet nine inches tall. You will get information on choosing the right seat for a child’s age, height, and weight

Parents who are expecting can get help preparing for their baby’s first ride home.

The service is available from 8 to 4, Mondays through Fridays, at the health department offices. That is at 2625 Foxpointe Drive in Columbus. You should make sure to bring your child, car seat and the vehicle owner’s manual when possible.
