Hope porch fire sparked by discarded cigarette
The Hope Volunteer Fire Department is urging residents to make sure to properly dispose of any smoking materials. That comes after a home fire this week sparked by a discarded cigarette.
According to the department, firefighters were called to a structure fire Monday in the 600 block of South Street. Hope Police Department arrived on the scene first and discovered that a porch attached to a mobile home was on fire. Officers controlled the fire which they say was caused when a dropped cigarette landed in combustible debris near the porch.
No one was injured and the fire caused minimal damage to the home.
Firefighters say that you should always get ride of your smoking materials safely and make sure they don’t come into contact with combustible materials.
