Update: Local counties declare travel warnings

Johnson County has joined the rest of our area counties enacting travel warnings, restricting traffic to emergency vehicles only.

Emergency officials in Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson and Shelby counties have raised their local travel restriction status to red travel warnings. That is the highest level of travel restrictions. Under a red travel warning, you are directed to refrain from all travel, comply with necessary emergency measures, cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans  and obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

Roads and streets are largely still snow-covered and many are impassible. Officials are urging you to stay off of the road not just for your own safety, but also for rescue workers and snow plow drivers working to try to clear the streets.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for our area until 7 a.m. Monday morning. The National Weather Service in Indianapolis says southeastern Indiana has already received 10 to 13 inches of snow across the area, with another one to three inches possible into this evening.

A cold weather advisory goes into effect from midnight tonight through midnight Monday. You can expect a low temperature tonight of zero with wind chill values of -7. Monday and Tuesday nights will be even colder with sub-zero lows overnight.
