Bartholomew County relaxes travel restrictions as roads improve

Bartholomew County has scaled back its travel restrictions. As of this morning, the county is now at an orange watch condition.

An orange travel watch status means conditions are said to be threatening to the safety of the public. Only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended.

According to Bartholomew County Emergency Management, snow and ice still covers many roads in the county, especially on secondary roads or less traveled areas. You can expect to find slick spots, packed snow and icy areas. Crews are continuing to work on clearing streets and roads.

Authorities urge you to allow yourself extra time to reach your destination, reduce speeds and increase the distance between you and vehicles ahead of you.

In our area, Jackson, Decatur, Shelby and Johnson counties have also scaled back to the orange watch condition. Brown and Jennings counties still remain in the red travel warning level as of this morning.
