Historic talk to be held today about Goins Hotel

The Landmark Columbus Foundation and Black History Columbus will be holding a Progressive Preservation talk this afternoon about the former historic Goins Hotel.

The hotel was built in 1928 at 415 and 1/2 Fourth Street in downtown Columbus — a 23-room boarding house serving Black travelers during segregation. It was established by Elmer and Lydia Goins and the site is recognized now with a plaque as part of the Columbus Black Heritage Trail.

Paulette Roberts and Cameryn Kent will discuss the history, which they began researching last February.

The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Columbus Area Visitors Center with a reception and light refreshments.
