Jail medical emergency leads to investigation

A medical incident at the Bartholomew County Jail is under investigation by the state police.

According to the Indiana State Police Versailles post, troopers were called to the jail on Saturday after a female inmate was found unconscious in her cell. Troopers say the incident started at about 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon when corrections officers checked on the woman and found her on the floor of her cell. Staff began medical care and called for medics, who transported her to Columbus Regional Hospital in serious condition.

Troopers say that the woman was in her cell alone and no foul play is suspected.

An investigation into how she became unresponsive is under way.

The victim’s name is not being released and her current condition is unavailable.
