Beech Grove officer killed during disturbance call

A Beech Grove police officer is dead and another injured after a shooting last night.

According to the Beech Grove Police Department, 33-year-old Officer Brian Elliott was shot and killed in the incident last night after responding to a disturbance call. Officials say that three officers were called to an apartment complex near Beech Grove High School at about 6:08 p.m. where Elliott and another officer were shot.

Both officers were taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where Elliott was pronounced dead. The other injured officer is in stable condition and is expected to survive, police say. The name of the other injured officer has not yet been released.

Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Maurice said his “heart goes out to Brian’s wife, Erin, his parents, and all of his family, friends, and loved ones. At this time, I am asking that we lean on one another to get through this. “

Governor Mike Braun says Elliott gave his life in the line of duty, and he and his wife Maureen are “praying for his family, loved ones, and his brothers and sisters in uniform as they grieve this unimaginable loss.”

47-year-old Kenneth T. Johnson was arrested by Indianapolis Police Department SWAT team several hours later, according to Indiana State Police.
