Registrations open for IU Columbus civics summer camp

Registrations are now open for an upcoming civics-based summer camp organized by IU Columbus.

According to the school, the iEngage program is a free weeklong program for students in 4th through 8th grade. It is a civics education program originally offered through the IU Center on Representative Government, a non-partisan, educational institution founded by former Indiana congressman Lee Hamilton.

The iEngage program is modeled after a successful program started at Baylor University a decade ago.

Campers will work on tackling an issue that’s important to them, while also learning from local leaders and organizations who work to solve community issues.

This year’s program is funded by a Lilly Foundation Grant for Youth Programs on Campus through IU’s Office of School Partnerships, Cummins Foundation, and the Heritage Fund. iEngage community partners include Foundation for Youth, Council for Youth Development, Community Education Coalition, and the Columbus Human Rights Commission.

The camp will be from June 22 to 26th at IU Columbus. In addition to the camp itself, students are provided a camp t-shirt, lunch and snacks each day, and if needed, wrap-around care and transportation to and from the Foundation for Youth. The camp is limited to the first 100 campers.
