Driver injured after crash, fire on State Road 3

A woman was trapped in the burning wreckage after a car crash Sunday night in Decatur County.

According to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to a crash with injuries in the 2800 block of North State Road 3 in Greensburg at about 10:14 p.m. Sunday night. They found that a car was driving south on State Road 3 when it crossed the centerline, striking a utility pole, spinning the car around. The vehicle suffered significant damage in the crash and caught fire. Rescue workers quickly extinguished the fire.

The driver, 35-year-old Emily Nicole Howard of Laurel was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued by Greensburg firefighters. She was then flown by Lifeline helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital.

The accident also disrupted electrical service in the area.

The crash remains under investigation.
