FedEx driver recognized for aiding state trooper during attack

A FedEx driver is being recognized for his heroism in protecting an Indiana State Police trooper last year.

According to the Indiana State Police, the incident happened in November when Stanton Loder III, was making deliveries and came across a trooper being attacked in rural Ripley County.

A suspect had allegedly rammed a vehicle in Jefferson County, hit a pedestrian and fled before being stopped by a trooper in southern Ripley County. The suspect then is accused of attacking and injuring the trooper. Loder saw that the trooper was in a life-and-death struggle and intervened, locking the suspect into a hold that allowed the trooper to escape.

Loder was recognized at a ceremony in Indianapolis yesterday with the department’s Meritorious Service Award.
