Area trooper recognized for July 4th lifesaving efforts

Indiana State Police are recognizing a trooper for his actions that saved a life in rural Decatur County on the Fourth of July last year.

According to the Indiana State Police, Master Trooper Daniel Elmore was patrolling in Decatur County on July 4th, when a girl was found unresponsive in a pool at a home on East County Road 280N. Elmore reached the home and found the three year old girl unconscious with a relative performing CPR. The relative was exhausted and Elmore took over lifesaving efforts.

After chest compressions she began to show signs of life, so he rolled her onto her side and gave her back blows to clear her airway. She soon began to breathe on her own. Elmore monitored the girl until medics arrived on the scene.

The girl was flown to an Indianapolis area hospital and has made a full recovery.

On Tuesday, Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott presented Elmore with a life saving award. Elmore is stationed at the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post.
