Three juveniles escape Jackson County home fire

Three kids escaped from a home fire in Jackson County Friday morning with two climbing down a TV antenna.

According to the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department, rescue workers were called to a structure fire at a home in the 7000 block of North County Road 550E at about 10:20 a.m. Friday morning. One person inside the home was reported as unaccounted for.

When firefighters arrived on the scene about seven minutes after the call from dispatchers, they found that three juveniles who were at the home had all escaped. Two of them climbed down from the second story on the antenna. The third was on the first floor at the time the fire was discovered. One of the three was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour to be checked out.

Firefighters say that the fire was contained to the kitchen area but there was smoke damage throughout the home.

Firefighters urge you to check to make sure that your smoke detectors are in working order. You should change their batteries every six month.

Also assisting at the scene were firefighters from Pershing Township Volunteer and Redding Township Volunteer Fire Departments, Seymour Fire Department and Jackson County medics.
