Jackson County Fair to raise food, funds for food banks

The Jackson County junior fair board will be taking part again in an effort to raise food donations for local food banks.

The Fight the Hunger, Stock the Trailer contest is presented by Farm Credit Mid-America and sponsored by Rural 1st. It is a friendly competition at Indiana county fairs led by local youth to give back to the community. The program has been going on since 2022, with junior fair boards using creative tactics and fundraising efforts to increase food donations.

Last year, 4H leaders across Indiana collected a record-breaking 233,500 pounds of food for more than 70 food banks statewide more than doubling 2024’s total of 108,000 pounds.

In 2024, the Jackson County Fair was the state’s winner, generating 16,300 pounds of food for the effort.

Farm Credit Mid-America also donates $500 to each fair board who participated and additional money to the winners in each region, totaling $56,000 to junior fair boards across Indiana.

The Jackson County Fair runs from July 26th through August 1st at the county fairgrounds in Brownstown.
