Volunteer firefighter/reserve deputy praised for rescue efforts

A volunteer firefighter and Bartholomew County reserve deputy is being praised for helping rescue a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Michael Barnes, acting as an Elizabethtown Volunteer firefighter was first to arrive on the scene recently of a traffic accident and found a female victim had been partially run over by a pickup truck. She was still trapped between the front wheel and wheel well of the truck when Barnes arrived. Barnes found a floor jack on scene and used it to lift the vehicle, allowing the victim to be rescued.

The sheriff’s department says that his quick thinking saved the victim from further injuries. Sheriff Chris Lane praised Barnes for his service as a reserve deputy and volunteer firefighter, saying “Bartholomew County is lucky to have him as a public servant.”
