Columbus police make drug-dealing arrest after overdose

A response to a drug overdose by Columbus police ended up with an arrest on drug-dealing charges for a local woman.

According to the Columbus Police Department, officers were called to the 2200 block of Park Avenue at about 6 a.m. Sunday morning on a report of an overdose. Officers found an unconscious woman and treated her with Narcan before she was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Based on evidence at the scene, the Bartholomew County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team served a search warrant for the home, where they discovered a substantial amount of fentanyl, along with items related to the possession and sale of narcotics.

39-year-old Jessica Comstock of Columbus was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing in and possessing a narcotic, possession of a legend drug and injection device, as well as for possessing drug paraphernalia.

The Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team is a combined unit of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department, and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office that targets the manufacturing and abuse of dangerous drugs in Columbus and Bartholomew County.
