Coming to theaters on August 21st is Rush: Cinema Strangiato 2019. Billboard reported the film “is being billed as the first ‘Annual Exercise in Fan Indulgence’ and will feature a hodge-podge of song performances, including ‘Tom Sawyer,’ ‘Closer To The Heart,’ and ‘Subdivisions,’ unreleased soundcheck and backstage footage from the 2015 R40 40th anniversary tour, and new interviews with producer Nick Raskulinecz and Rush peer fans Billy Corgan, Tom Morello, and Taylor Hawkins.”
The movie takes it’s name from the band’s 1978 Hemispheres track “La Villa Strangiato.” For participating theaters, log on to cinemastrangiato.com.
1981’s Moving Pictures remains Rush’s biggest album to date, while “Tom Sawyer” remains their best-known song. Alex Lifeson recalled for us the impact the record had on the Canadian band’s career at the time: [“That took us up to the next level. After the release of that album, we were headlining everywhere we were going, and, y’know, our audiences increased by a large percentage. And it just gave us that much of a push forward into what was coming.”] SOUNDCUE (:14 OC: . . . what was coming)
Back in 2013 we caught up with Rush’s Geddy Lee and Neil Peart backstage at the Rock Hall ceremony and they gave all the credit for their long awaited induction to their legendary fans: [(Geddy Lee): “I think the collective voices of our fans — without question — put a hell of a lot of pressure on the board of whoever decides these things. To take. . . (Neil Peart): Gotta be. (Geddy Lee): Gotta be. I had the people from the Hall of Fame coming up to me today, thanking us, because it’s the quietest it’s ever been after the announcements were made. Usually they’re so besieged with angry, violent (laughs) emails and such. So, they had a lot to do with it and so, I really appreciate it.”] SOUNDCUE (:31 OC: . . . I appreciate it)
Rush played its last show to date on August 1st, 2015 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The band has let it be known that drummer Neil Peart has retired not only from Rush, but from drumming altogether.
