Last season was Archie Miller’s first as head coach of the Hoosiers. It didn’t go as well as fans had hoped. The team finished 16-16 and 9-9 in conference. It wasn’t all Miller’s fault though. The shelves were pretty bare when he took over.
As we head into year #2, things look much better. Juwan Morgan is back for his senior season and Indiana added an outstanding recruiting class featuring 5-star Romeo Langford. He is the first Indiana Mr. Basketball to sign with the Hoosiers since Cody Zeller in 2011. Two other Indiana All-stars are in this freshman class also; Lafayette McCutcheon point guard Robert Phinisee and South Bend Riley forward Damezi Anderson. 4-star recruits Jerome Hunter and Jake Forester round out this top 10 class. Needless to say, there is much more talent on the squad this year.
Grad transfer Evan Fitzner from St. Mary’s is a big body at 6’10’ and 230 pounds. He will help in the front court. De’ron Davis, Zach McRoberts and Devonte Green are back as well.
The Hoosiers were inconsistent for most of last season. They would lose head-scratchers against Indiana State and Fort Wayne but turn around and beat #18 Notre Dame. Consistency is the key. With last year’s freshman class getting plenty of experience, there’s a lot of potential and depth at every position on this year’s team.
If everything breaks the right way, this could be a special season for the Hoosiers. It all begins tonight.
