Two facing trafficking charges after drugs found at jail

A search for a wanted man in North Vernon led to the arrest of two people yesterday on drug-related charges.

According to the North Vernon Police Department, officers were talking with a man they believed had an outstanding warrant at a home at about 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. They say that the man at first gave them a fake name, but they were able to identify him as 58-year-old Donald Friley of Butlerville who was wanted for failing to appear in court in Decatur County to face a larceny charge. He was taken into custody.

During that interaction, a second man arrived at the home. Police say that they became suspicious because he kept putting his hands in his pockets. They patted him down and found drug paraphernalia. A search also uncovered material that tested positive as amphetamines. The man, 66-year-old Daniel Perry of North Vernon was also taken into custody.

At the jail, Perry was found to also be carrying methamphetamine and marijuana, while Friley also was found with marijuana.

In addition to the outstanding warrant, Friley is facing a charge of trafficking with an inmate, as well as charges for possessing the drugs and giving a fake name.
