A semi truck full of Army ordinance was in danger of catching fire this morning on Interstate 65 between Columbus and Seymour, shutting down traffic in both directions.

According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, an Army explosive ordinance disposal team was dispatched to secure 300 howitzer rounds in the vehicle.

The crash shut down the interstate between the Walesboro and Jonesville Road/State Road 11 exits. Northbound traffic was diverted off I-65 onto State Road 11. Southbound traffic was diverted off of the interstate onto State Road 58/County Road 450S.

Authorities say the highway was reopened by 11:30 a.m.

There was also another serious crash in the backed up traffic near the State Road 46 exit that required an air ambulance at the scene.
