DNR encourages First Day Hikes at state parks, lakes

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is suggesting that you kick off the new year with a First Day Hike at one of Indiana’s state parks or lakes.

According to the agency, the hikes are organized by Indiana State Parks in cooperation with America’s State Parks and happen in all 50 states. The program more than 30 years ago and was created to encourage healthy lifestyles and to promote year-round recreation.

Brown County State Park will be hosting a First Day Hike on the Salt Creek Trail. The hike will offer a chance to learn about the trail and the history of bridges over Salt Creek. It will be an easy two-mile hike with hot chocolate provided at the trailhead. The hike will start at 11 a.m. at the Olympic Pool parking area.
