U.S. 31 project continues in Franklin into new year
INDOT says that the next phase of improvement work on U.S. 31 in Franklin is continuing into the New Year.
According to the agency, the first phase of the six-phase project wrapped up in October and the second phase is expected to finish early next year. It was originally set to finish by the end of this year, but was delayed by the weather, utilities and acquiring materials.
That work is happening on U.S. 31 between South Main Street and West Jefferson Street in Franklin. Crews will be installing pavement markings, permanent signage, signal detection loops, traffic signals and final utility connections.
The third phase is expected to start later in the spring. The overall work is expected to finish in 2028. The work schedule is dependent on the weather.
Milestone is the contractor for the $66.2 million dollar project.
INDOT reminds you to slow down, to drive with distractions and to use extra caution to worker safety in all work zones.
