Weekend Seymour fire displaces apartment dwellers

A major fire over the weekend in Seymour displaced about 15 residents from their apartments.

According to the Seymour Fire Department, rescue workers were called to the Canterbury Apartments on East Oak Street at about 4:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon. They found heavy fire and dense smoke coming from the second floor and through the roof. After inititally making an interior attack on the fire, firefighters moved to a defensive strategy using a stream from a ladder truck.

A Seymour city transit bus was used to transport the displaced residents to the Red Cross facility on Myers Street and Red Cross is assisting the residents.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Seymour Police Department also assisted at the scene.
