Warming centers continue as icy cold remains

With more nights of sub-zero wind chills in the forecast into the weekend, Bartholomew County and Columbus will continue to provide shelter to those in need.

The Community Engagement Center on Second Street in Columbus will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That is at 1075 Second Street.

The Brighter Days Homeless Shelter will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. ColumBUS transit will be providing bus routes to the center from the Community Engagement Center today and Saturday. Transportation will also be provided on Sunday evening between the two facilities,

The Columbus and Hope Branches of the Bartholomew County Public Library will be open as a place to warm up. The main library branch on Fifth Street in Columbus is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday. . The Hope Branch is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and closed Sunday.

Officials say that no animal crates are available and only service animals will be permitted in the warming centers.

Food, showers and areas for sleeping are not available at the warming centers.
