New Bartholomew library branch opens on Columbus’ east side

The Bartholomew County Public Library opened a new branch location Thursday on the east side of Columbus.

It is at 421 McClure Road, the former Eastside Community Center. The community center was founded by Roby and America Anderson in 1975 and opened on McClure Road in 1979. The center struggled financially in recent years and after identifying a need for library services on the east side in 2004, the Bartholomew County Public Library assumed ownership of the property.

After a full interior renovation, the new branch opened as BCPL Eastside on Thursday.

The location will offer a small collection of materials and will serve as a pickup location for materials you put on hold. The center also provides wireless access, computers for public use, printing, copying and scanning services.

The branch will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
