Fundraiser to name first “pet mayor” of Columbus
IU Columbus and Columbus Animal Care Services are looking for the city’s first pet mayor.
According to the school, local pet owners are being asked to nominate their animal friends to serve as the pet mayor as a fundraiser for the two organizations.
Through March 20th you can nominate your pet for the office of pet mayor with a donation of $30. Or you can donate $50 to add a yard sign to help the campaign. The nominations will be $10 off for IU Columbus students.
All pets are welcome to run for office but the pets must reside in Bartholomew County or belong to an IU Columbus student, faculty or staff member.
After the nominations, voting will take place April 1st through the 20th, with each vote costing $1. The new pet mayor will be announced on April 22nd, as part of this year’s IU Day celebration.
Funds raised will go toward scholarships for IU Columbus students and the city operated animal shelter.
You can submit your pet’s nomination and get more information at columbuspetmayor.com.
