Seymour police make four arrests in residential burglary case

Four people have been arrested after an investigation into a weekend burglary in Seymour.

According to the Seymour Police Department, officers were called to a residential burglary on Saturday. As part of the investigation they received a list of items stolen from the home. But after conferring with other officers, police realized that officers on the night shift made a traffic stop and recognized the items were inside the vehicle, including items containing the name and address of the victim. However, because the burglary had not yet been reported those in the vehicle were released.

Police then began searching for the vehicle’s occupants an interviewed them about the missing items. That lead to several search warrants at numerous residences, where stolen items were recovered.

Police arrested 31-year-old Andrew Schlehuser and 56-year-old Thomas Brooks, both of Seymour, on preliminary charges of burglary and possession of stolen property. Brooks is also being accused of possession of drug paraphernalia.

37-year-old Jessica Engle of Seymour and 37-year-old Freddie Chambers of Austin were both arrested for possession of stolen property.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.
