Heavy rain overnight could bring more flooding to area

Minor flooding on East Fork White River at Seymour is expected to end briefly before starting to rise again.

The river is at 15.5 feet this morning, or 3 and a half feet above the minor flood level. According to river gauge estimates, the river is expected to drop below flood level by tomorrow morning, before heading back up into minor flooding Thursday as more rain hits the East Fork White River Basin. It is expected to continue rising until Saturday.

The river at Seymour crested at 19.49 feet last week with major flooding. That crest is now between Bedford and Williams and is expected to hit Shoals tonight.

Forecasters are warning of heavy rain early Wednesday morning that could bring renewed flooding or delay rivers dropping back to normal levsls. They say that 1 to 2 inches or more rain is possible across our area.

We are under a slight risk of severe weather tonight, the second lowest risk level assigned by the National Weather Service. Hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are all possible.
