Record high temps, severe weather possible Thursday

We could be looking at another day of record-breaking warm temperatures today, but that will also bring the threat of severe weather this evening.

According to the National Weather Service, this morning’s thunderstorms are not expected to turn severe.

Forecasters say, a high temperature in the low 80s is expected this afternoon then a cold front will move through, bringing the chance of gusty winds of up to 35 mph, and the chance of severe thunderstorms.

Northern parts of our area are under a slight risk of severe weather, the second lowest risk level tracked by the National Weather Service. That weather could include severe thunderstorms with very large hail, damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph and heavy rain with localized flooding. Isolated tornadoes are also possible. The rest of South Central Indiana is under a marginal risk for severe weather, the lowest risk level.

The greatest danger is from 7 p.m. tonight through 1 a.m. Friday morning.
