Update: Search continue for missing girl in East Fork White River

Rescue workers have resumed a search for a missing girl in East Fork White River this morning, but are now moving to recovery efforts instead of a rescue.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers say that they have seven boats on the water early today.  Rescue workers are using aerial and underwater drones, sonar on boats along with surface area searches. Lt. Angela Goldman says they “will continue to search throughout the day until she is located.”

According to the Columbus Fire Department, the search began at about 6:39 p.m. yesterday evening when rescue workers were called to the river in Mill Race Park. Columbus police were first on the scene and witnesses said that a child had been swept away and disappeared.

Firefighters and the Bartholomew County Water Rescue Team launched three boats to search the river. The search continued for about four hours, including divers in the water. The fire department announced at about 11:30 p.m. last night that the search had been suspended for the night and would pick up again this morning.

Mill Race Park is closed to the public as the search continues.
