Bartholomew County voters to see some choices on primary ballot

Voters will have choices to be made on both the Republican and Democratic ballots in Bartholomew County.

At the top of the ticket, Republican Congressman Jefferson Shreve has a primary challenge with Sarah Brown in U.S. House District 6. Democrats have four choices to run against the winner of that race, with William Amyx, Nicholas Baker, David Boyd and Cinde Wirth up for the nomination. Republican Congresswoman Erin Houchin has no primary challenge in U.S. House District 9, but four Democrats are running for their party’s nomination to face her in November, Jim Graham, Brad Meyer, Tim Peck and Keil Roark.

Republican State Senator Greg Walker has a primary challenge for State Senate District 41 with Rep. Michelle Davis trying to unseat him. District 73 State Rep. Jennifer Meltzer is facing challengers Edward Comstock and Jacob Johnson in the Republican primary.

Republican State Representatives Ryan Lauer and Jim Lucas are both unopposed in their primary. In the Democratic primary, Ross Thomas is running in the District 41 Senate race, Chris Bowen is running against Lucas for the District 69 Indiana House seat, and A.J. Miller will face the winner of the primary in Indiana House District 73.

At the county level, there will be contested Republican primaries for two of the four seats up this year for the Bartholomew County Council. Incumbent Leah Beyer is facing a challenge from Mark T. Bense for the District 2 seat, and current Treasurer Barb Hackman is facing Rick Miller in the open race for the District 4 seat.

Republican incumbents running unopposed in the primary include Commissioner Carl Lienhoop, Sheriff Chris Lane, Superior Court 2 Judge Jon Rohde, Prosecutor Lindsey Holden, Clerk Shari Lentz,  Assessor Ginny Whipple and District 1 County Council member Greg Patterson and Councilman Mark Gorbett in Council District 3.

Unopposed in the Republican primary are Vickie Michael for auditor, Debra Beck Settle for recorder and Sandy Beatty for auditor.

Unopposed in the Democratic primary are Grant Hale for county commissioner, Lula Young for clerk, Kimberly Wadholm for auditor and Nancy Merbitz for recorder and Michelle Carr for County Council District 4.
