North Vernon man arrested in Jefferson County fatal accident

North Vernon police arrested a man early Tuesday morning who was wanted for reckless homicide in Jefferson County.

According to the North Vernon Police Department, officers went to the 1900 block of Brookwater Drive at about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday morning to serve the warrant. Police found Gavin C. Perry at the scene and he was taken into custody without incident.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reported in September that Perry was the driver of a vehicle that was involved in a fatal crash on State Road 7. 49-year-old Edwin D. Harmond of Madison, the driver of a second vehicle, had to be cut from the wreckage but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A juvenile in Harmond’s vehicle also had to be cut from the vehicle and was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. The driver of a third vehicle was treated for injuries at the scene and released.

Perry, who was 18 at the time, was also flown to the Louisville hospital for treatment.

Perry was taken to the Jennings County Jail after his Tuesday arrest.
