Primary election roundup: Davis unseats Walker in state senate; Night’s closest race in County Council

In unofficial vote totals for the contested races in tonight’s primary election.

In the most watched race of the night, the Republican primary for State Senate District 41 Challenger Michelle Davis has defeated incumbent Greg Walker of Columbus. Davis earned 53.2 percent of the vote in Bartholomew County over Walker’s 46.71 percent. In her home Johnson County part of the district, Davis received 67 percent of the vote compared to Walker’s 33 percent.

In the closest race of the night, for Bartholomew County Council District 2, incumbent Republican Councilwoman Leah Beyer has narrowly defeated first time candidate Mark Bense by seven votes. Beyer received 50.2 percent of the vote compared to 49.8 percent for Bense.

In Bartholomew County Council District 4 Republican primary, Barb Hackman has defeated Rick Miller with 65.5 percent to Miller’s 34.5 percent.

In the Columbus Township Trustee Race, Kris Weisner is in his first run for election and defeated Julie Del Genio with 66 percent to 34 percent.

In Indiana House District 73, Republican incumbent Jennifer Meltzer is winning over her opponent Edward Comstock 72.4 percent to 27.6 percent in the Bartholomew County portion of that district.

In the U.S. House District 6 race, Republican incumbent Jefferson Shreve is running against Sarah Brown. He is leading in Bartholomew County 51.5 percent to 48.5 percent.

On the Democratic side there is a four way primary for the U.S. House District 6 seat with Cinde Worth leading the other three contenders with 71 percent of the vote compared to her closest challenger.

In U.S. House District 9, there is a four way primary amongst the Democrats to run against incumbent Congresswoman Erin Houchin this fall. In Bartholomew County, Brad Meyer won 38.8 percent.
