Brownstown man to serve 40 years after decade-long abuse

A Brownstown man is headed to prison for 40 years after being found guilty of 14 charges involving sexual abuse of a child.

According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, 60-year-old Christopher Green was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Richard W. Poynter to serve 40 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. This came after an April jury trial that found Green guilty of 14 felonies and one misdemeanor. The charges included Child Molesting, Vicarious Sexual Conduct, Attempted Obstruction of Justice, Neglect of a Dependent, Intimidation, Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury; and Incest.

The investigation began in September of 2023, when Seymour officers received information that Green had inappropriate sexual contact with a victim starting 22 years earlier that lasted 11 years. Police served a search warrant at a Brownstown home and recovered evidence related to the accusations before arresting him on September 29th that year.

The prosecutor’s office says that Green subjected his victims to abuse, neglect, intimidation, and sexual misconduct. Prosecutors praised the victims for coming forward saying that “Despite the emotional difficulty of revisiting years of trauma, they chose to stand before a jury and tell the truth. Their strength and determination were instrumental in securing these convictions.”

The case was prosecuted by Prosecuting Attorney Lynsey N. Fleetwood and Deputy Prosecutor Sara Laska.
