Columbus Man Sentenced to 7 Years for Domestic Charges

A Columbus Man was sentenced to 7 years behind bars after being convicted of domestic battery charges.
Earlier this year, On January 26th officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to a residence in Columbus on a domestic battery call. Officers arrived and spoke with the victim who said he was shoveling snow in his drive way when he was attacked by Joshua Mckinsey of Columbus. The victim was a witness in another criminal case including Mckinsey and was set for a desposition in that case the following week.

On February 2nd, McKinsey was charged with Attempted Obstruction of Justice, a Level 5 felony; and Domestic Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury, a Level 6 felony, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On June 1st, McKinsey pleaded guilty to the charges and at the sentencing hearing on July 1st, was sentenced to five years at the Indiana Department of Correction on the obstruction of justice charge and two more years for the domestic battery charge. Judge James Worton of the Bartholomew County Superior Court 1 ordered the Counts to run consecutively for an aggregate sentence of seven 7 years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
