Bartholomew Jail providing mental health services to inmates

The Bartholomew County Jail is providing more than 100 hours of mental health treatment to inmates each week.

According to an update from the sheriff’s department, the agency is working in partnership with the Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress in Bartholomew County and medical provider Quality Correctional Care to help address mental health and substance abuse challenges to prisoners in the jail, as well as after they are released.

There are four mental health care workers providing a collective 140 hours of services each week, including crisis management counseling, teaching recovery and life skills, a substance use treatment program and transition planning.

• Dave Clark, Caseworker

Sheriff Chris Lane says that the approach helps provide inmates with the tools, support, and resources needed for recovery and successful reintegration into the community. Prior to an inmate’s release a transition plan is prepared for an inmate and is shared with ASAP to help ensure continuity of care and ongoing services outside the jail.
