North Vernon police say that a man struck an officer with a flower pot before he was arrested Sunday.

According to the police department, officers were called to the 500 block of Jennings Street Sunday on a report of a man acting erratically. When officers arrived on the scene, they encountered a belligerent man who pulled off his shirt and challenged officers to a fight, police say. During the scuffle he used the flower pot to hit an officer and refused to follow police commands. He was quickly taken into custody without further injury.

Police say the man, identified as Jason Horton of North Vernon, was arrested on preliminary charges including Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Intoxication.
