The Columbus Area Chamber will be kicking off a campaign encouraging residents to shop locally with an event downtown Thursday.
The Think Local campaign is meant to raise awareness of the importance of small retailers, especially during the holidays.
According to the National Retail Federation, small retailers earn 20 to 40 percent of their annual revenue during November and December. The chamber is encouraging residents to explore downtown Columbus and other shopping districts, to take advantage of special promotions, and to share their finds on social media using the hashtag
#ThinkLocalColumbus.
Activities Wednesday celebrating the launch of the Think Local campaign will include a proclamation from the mayor and two walkabouts in the city. The proclamation ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at the Columbus Area Visitors Center on Franklin Street followed by a downtown walking tour of local businesses. A walkabout of the wider community will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Hog Molly Brewing Company on Hutchins Avenue.
