Columbus recognizes Water Safety Month with web resources
Columbus officials are urging you to be safe if you are heading out on the water as part of Water Safety Month.
The Columbus Parks and Recreation Department has launched a new web page focused on water safety, including tips from Aquatics Manager Jim Lemke.
Among the suggestions are to always swim with a buddy or where a lifeguard is present, to wear properly fitted US Coast Guard approved lifejackets on boats or around open water, and before you swim to check for environmental hazards like water depth, underwater hazards, and currents.
Lemke points out that learning to swim is a lifelong and lifesaving skill and that swim lessons are available at Donner Aquatics Center and at Foundation for Youth.
