Columbus welcomes newest firefighter to the department

The Columbus Fire Department is welcoming its newest firefighter.

28-year-old Logan Duke was sworn in this week by Mayor Mary Ferdon, bringing the fire department up to full staffing.

Duke and his family live in Columbus. Duke served in the U.S. Navy as a damage control petty officer. He attended Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington and earned a certificate in public safety. Previously, he was a volunteer and then paid firefighter for Columbus Township Fire and Rescue Department.

Duke is registered as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician and holds Indiana Firefighter certifications. Duke he is also certified in incident management systems and as a swift water rescue technician.

After going through fire department orientation and training programs, he will receive his station and shift assignments.
