County accepts single bid for storage building

Bartholomew County has one bidder for a new storage building at the county 4-H fairgrounds with a cost of just under three quarters of a million dollars.

The bidding process was originally started in September, but several requirements limited the number of companies interested in bidding, Earlier this month, the county commissioners put the project back out to bid and the bids were opened yesterday morning. The only bidder was Larry Mohr Construction of Flat Rock with a bid of just over $740 thousand dollars. Original estimates were for a cost of $1 million.

Commissioners have said that the county needs more permanent storage space in the face of document retention requirements, and as the county loses storage space at the former county highway garage and the former Elks building. At one point the weight of paperwork threatened to collapse the fourth floor of the Bartholomew County courthouse.

Commissioners took the bid under advisement.
