Extreme cold follows in wake of heavy snow

Although the heavy snow has ended, now the extreme cold sets in.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis is warning of extremely cold temperatures. A cold weather advisory is in effect until 7 tonight which will then be replaced by an extreme cold warning tonight through Tuesday morning.

Today you can expect wind chill levels between 10 and 20 degrees below zero across central and southern Indiana. Tonight, the real temperatures are going to be below zero and the wind chill will make that feel like 20 to 30 degrees below zero.

Forecasters warn that you can get frostbite in as little as 20 minutes with this extreme cold and there is a danger of hypothermia from any prolonged exposure.

If you have to be outside, you should dress in layers and make sure to wear a hat, face mask, and gloves.

Night time lows are expected to remain below zero through Friday night, with Saturday night low of one degree above zero.

The winter storm warning in effect all weekend expired at 7 a.m. this morning.
