Final free fishing day of 2025 coming up later this month

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says that the final Free Fishing Day of the Year is coming up later this month.

On Free Fishing Days, Indiana residents the opportunity to try fishing without having to purchase a fishing license or trout/salmon stamps. While there are no licenses or stamps required on Free Fishing Days, all regulations still apply, including seasons, bag limits, and size limits.

DNR said that if you already have your annual fishing license, Free Fishing Days are a perfect opportunity to take friends and family fishing who haven’t gone before.

The last event of the year will be Saturday Sept. 27th.

The Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area in Edinburgh will be hosting a beginner bass fishing workshop from 9 to noon. The event is meant for those 16 or older. You can sign up here: https://events.in.gov/event/intro-to-bass-fishing-atterbury-fwa

In Bartholomew County, there are two public fishing areas. The first is on Grouse Ridge Lake, which is west of Ogilville on State Road 58. There is also the Driftwood Sandpiper Pit location off of U.S. 31 near Edinburgh.
