Flood warnings taking effect on area rivers, streams

Minor flooding is expected to start soon on East Fork White River at Seymour. A flood warning is in effect and minor flooding is expected.

According to river gauge estimates, the river should pass the 12 foot minor flood stage this afternoon. It is expected to crest at just over 16 feet by Thursday afternoon.

The river isn’t expected to drop back below the flood level until Sunday morning.

A flood warning goes into effect tonight for the Driftwood River at Edinburgh. Minor flooding is forecast.

According to the National Weather Service, the river is expected to rise above the minor flood stage early Wednesday morning and then to crest at about 13 feet tomorrow evening. That’s two feet above the 11 foot minor flood stage. The river should drop back below the flood stage by Friday afternoon.

The flood warning is in effect until Saturday morning.

Sugar Creek at Edinburgh is also expected to see minor flooding. The creek is on its way up and should enter the minor flood stage by early Wednesday morning. The creek is at 9.31 feet this afternoon and should crest at 10.85 feet by Wednesday afternoon, just under a foot above the minor flood stage. The creek should drop back below flood levels by Wednesday night.

The Bartholomew County Parks Department has closed Owens Bend Park and Heflen Park due to the rising water levels.

The parks department will issue an update when the parks reopen.
