Flooding moves to area rivers; Flood warnings issued

Flooding is ongoing in parts of our area after last night’s storms dumped as much as five inches of rain in some spots.

Flood warnings have been issued for East Fork White River at Seymour and Muscatatuck River at Deputy. Minor flooding is ongoing in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may be impassable.

East Fork White River at Seymour has passed the minor flood stage of 12 feet this afternoon. It is expected to crest at about three feet above the minor flood stage by Thursday afternoon. A flood warning is in effect until late Saturday morning.

Muscatatuck River at Deputy has passed the minor flood stage and is expected to crest about a foot and a half above the minor flood stage soon. A flood warning is in effect until this evening.

Driftwood River at Edinburgh is also rising. It is expected to rise to just above minor flooding Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis says scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected again this evening with an 80 percent chance of rain. Another quarter to half an inch of rain is possible.

Emergency officials urge you to turn around and don’t drown if you come across a flooded roadway. Must flood deaths occur in vehicles.
